Themes and Questions
The more I think about the program and all of the classes that we are participating in the more I see it as a thought process change and less as a content change. The Masters classes that we have been diving into has definitely changed how I go about my class, how I interact with students, and how I design curriculum. However, I wouldn't be able to point to a large, identifiable change. I think this is a good thing. It is almost like an augmentation of my classroom and less about an entire overhaul. I am thinking more critically, reflective, and deeper throughout my taught courses.
Themes:
Creativity, exploration, engagement, and play
Building knowledge through the use of creative thinking and how we can utilize that "out of the box" thinking to create new and different ideas. Connect learning to things students enjoy and/or things that they are already doing.
"An art class should leave students feeling that the art world is wide open and awaiting their ideas."
Self investment, identity, and validation
Creating an active space that allows for self exploration and activation. Allowing students to be and discover who they are and create through that lens.
"we need to make sure that even if we don’t always understand, we are making the attempt to validate the art they are consuming and subsequently producing"
Integration of technology, Virtual Worlds, and Augmented Reality
Making use of not only the physical world but utilizing technology to supplement and increase or ability to make the best use of our time and space. Creating a set of ideals that span across physical, digital, and virtual environments.
"there are definitely some things to be said about gaming culture and how we can encourage online collaboration between students"
Artwork:
The base of the artwork is a collection of Post-it notes. These small writings have been from students, other teachers, and substitute teachers covering my class. I did not write any of them. Some of them were unprompted communications. Others were from formative assessments, exit tickets, or thoughts on their projects or digital art class. These insights into their thoughts provides a framework of how we can talk about the course.
Thoughts:
Student engagement in augmented realities
Understanding self as a link to learning and play
Pushing students outside themselves so that they can better understand themselves
Choice within structure, exploration without boundaries
Creating a sense of community, throwing away the misconception of "cold" technology
Continue focusing on people as we integrate technology
A sense of open-world play within a tight knit community, Video Game sensibilities
Poem:
Students
Engaged, Creative
Exploring, Understanding, Collaborating
Themselves within a larger community
Artists.
