Art is in the details...

... but no one wants to hear about it.

When I create art, I try to have a focused idea of what the piece will become.  I make small conscious decisions on how I will create it. These decisions shape the look, feel, and attitude of the piece.  Once I have created a finished product, I can then display it in a specific way.

All of these decisions are conscious and purposeful.  All artists make these decisions and these details are intentional and combine to create art in an intentional way.

Despite all these details, the time and work invested into a work, the viewer doesn’t want to hear about them. They need to be discovered.  I have found that a good piece of art is one that I can immerse myself into and read into the depths of the artist’s intentions.  A work that is created with intentional details that I can discover becomes much more interesting and personal than one defined and fully represented.

Art education must be experiential. Students must discover their art.

Gregory Lawrence

Greg was born and raised in a small town in Central Ohio. His father owns and opperates an apple orchard and Greg was able to work on the farm from an early age. He still holds onto the same work ethic impressed upon him during his time there.

Greg likes to think of himself as an educator, an artist, an architect, a musician, a husband, a traveler, a gamer, a tv watcher, and a comedian. He might not be all of those things but he likes to think of himself as all of them.
